Picked up another bike yesterday
Jialing jh70 1996, 4 speed manual gearbox, 10k on the clock, last run in 2007 donated by a friend of a friend who felt he owed me.
Yeah I've heard all the jokes and the ribbing that BCP has taken for his 'clown bike', but I'm seriously impressed with this little bike.
It's got a little surface rust, the alloy bits are flaky and all the chrome has had it, but other than that it's pretty good.
Got it home, flushed the fuel tank and carb, cleaned the plug and checked for a spark, a squirt of petrol down the plughole and (I kid you not) it started on the second kick and ran as sweet as a nut.
I wired up a spare battery to check for lights, indicators ok but nothing else, spend the next 30 minutes chasing the live through the chassis into the headlamp to find the fault, Doh!, nothing works unless the engine's running
I can't find much about it on the internet, but it seems Jialing worked in partnership with Honda to produce a Cub copy. The handlebar switches are good quality and the exhaust and speedo are marked Honda. I'm pleased that it's not a Cub, because as it's worth next to nothing, I can do things to it that I wouldn't dream of doing to a proper Cub.

I think, and I must stress 'think', that it's virtually identical to a Cub of the same era, and as such, most or maybe all the panels are interchangeable.
The plastics seem to be less malleable than genuine Honda, the front mudguard bottom fitting has broken off and will need a repair or replacement.
I'll email suppliers to see if they know whether a Honda one will fit.

Looks alright that!
If it was a bad copy and registered in 96 then it would have been rotten and broken about 20 years ago if it was no good

That's right, all the metalwork is very robust, Boo, god rest him, had good things to say about the early Jialings. If it's was good enough for him, it's good enough for me. Plus a 4 speed gearbox a clutch and (very) cheap, what is there not like?.If it was a bad copy and registered in 96 then it would have been rotten and broken about 20 years ago if it was no good

Jialings are pretty good. I've got clones of an SS50 and an XL125. I would say the Jialing SS50 frame is better than the original Honda!
There's a C70 copy on ebay at the moment.

Re: Picked up another bike yesterday
Some progress today, happy there's no serious corrosion anywhere. Only had to drill out 2 bolts, everything else came apart easily.
Ready for a rubdown and then coat of paint. I want it ready for the IOW.
Engine cases will more than a little solvol
A couple or three questions while I'm here :-
1. The engine bolts are a pretty sloppy fit in the crankcase, I'm wondering whether it's due to alloy corrosion or is this the norm?
2. Does the rear end look like a standard 12v Cub?, I only have experience of 6 volters.
3. Where is the best place to get a copy front mudguard?.
