Thanks for that very useful info. I'm in the middle of considering maybe getting a different bike. I love my innova, in fact I like riding it more than any other bike I've owned, but I'm hoping something with better suspension may help me stuffer less after riding the bike. Interested in the crf250l and the cb500x. My friend nearly bought a cb500x, I like my knees to be fairly dropped and the cb500x allowed this nicely compared to a lot of bikes.

I owned a few of the older style cb500's, but found them too cramped, however when you got the revs up they went from standard commuter bike to a real fun little pocket rocket, it was almost as if they had a power band type delivery once they got to a certain revs.....great engine, is the new version anything like that?
I'm 5ft 10" and don't find my CB500X cramped at all - not like I was on my NTV650.
I know what you mean re the '94-03 CB500's and the new one hasn't quite got that amount of grunt - however I've ridden a NC700 and, because it doesn't rev very high it didn't 'feel' as fast even though it possibly is - I kept hitting the rev-limiter on it. The CB500X revs to 10,000 and, being a twin, has the characteristic vibes that go with it - it ain't a pocket-rocket but plenty fast enough for me.
Makes sense for you to have a test ride on one, see if you can get an extended one as you need a ciouple of hours (and use it on the roads that you use regulary) -if you were nearer I would be happy to lend you mine for an afternoon.
Also the Honda CB500 riders forum (http://www.cbr500riders.com) is very helpful (as I find they all are) with tips to further improve an already good bike.

Sorry I can't fathom how to add previous quotes onto the thread

Reason: Sorted out rocket science (actually fixed quoting error but ... ya know...)

Cheers for that, it's good to get as much info as possible and a big thank you for the offer....I'm not too bothered about speed these days, as long as it's comfortable and takes some of the bumps out of the road I'll be happy....plus I favour Honda. I have also been reading about the nc700, but I think the 500 would cover all bases quite well.

I had the crf 250m supermoto version , fantastic engine/bike, lots of fun to ride, but I just couldn't get comfy on it! (EEEh if I was only 20 years younger).

What was the problem with the comfort...seat...legroom?
the crf is lighter than the cb500, both great bikes, and the 250 is more than fast enough if you stick to speed limits. It was just a little tall for me, stretching my legs when pulling up, and the seat wasn't good on a long run, but thats just me, it was a great bike.

Just noticed you've got a sh300,,,,, probably a hard comparison to make but, how would you compare to the crf250 /cb500x for fun comfort acceleration etc....I know it's a bit of a daft comparison, just i would be getting rid of the SH to fund the other bike. Cheers.

not a daft comparison at all, all 2 wheels with an engine in the middle. :)
I love my sh300, its quick and the riding position suits be fine. I do change bikes/scoots a lot, but Ive no plans to change the SH. Its as fast as the CRF if not a little quicker , lighter and easier to man handle than the CB, and would keep up with a 500 up to 60-65mph. Im also getting 80mpg and ride with pillion a lot and I hardly notice any difference two up. Im sure it would tour europe two up no problem.
The CRF and CB are fantastic motorbikes, but I would rather have a SH300.

Big thank you for that horrobags. I'm on my third sh300, I managed to keep one of them for two years which for me is some kind of miracle.I get itchy feet for too easily. I always said an innova and a sh300 would be or close to my perfect pair of bikes. I could do with something that gives me the same satisfaction of the innova does but not have such an impact on my body..... I'm so reluctant to get shut of it at the same time. That's in a way why I was looking at the crf250l...thought it might give me the same sort of enjoyment as the innova, but maybe less stress on my body.....( but saying that I might find it more harsh on the old body...who knows)

I've had half an ear open for an SH300 for some time now. If you do decide to move on, please drop me a message.
