My personal daily limit is about 150 - 170 miles. After that I find my concentration level starts to fall. Possibly dehydration, possibly starting to get cold, possibly a function of old age having now reached the point where those in the know think I should take another driving test! I also get bored at 40 mph for long stretches on A roads.
I think I also find multiple long days a bit much so try to keep to my 150 mile max.
My longest day was 285 miles - not much by some standards I know. Part of a 480 mile weekend which I don't think I'll be repeating anytime soon.
Touratech do a good 3 litre petrol container but expensive. I usually use an old 500 ml tomato feed bottle as a reserve container and have never been stranded.
I don't do motorways on the c90 and ride on my own or with one companion. Antisocial but avoids conflict.
Oxford throwovers with one strap under the seat and two over works well for me.

Yes, I think we will settle at that kind of figure and we will mostly keep away from motorways. Multiple long days won't happen either - this is meant to be fun!
Btw, I just took the C50 LAC for MOT in Kirkwall - about 20 miles away and that's over 10 years since the last one! Really enjoyed it and as previous posters have indicated lots of folk stopped for a natter- might tax it Aug 1 and give it a bit of use for a change.

I put all 3 straps of my Oxford throw overs under the seat - easier for me at fuel stops.

have a fuel reserve in 1 liter beer bottle most of time with me - in pic it under rucksack.
use it one time in 3 years, but it is very useful to know, you have a reserve for about 50 - 80 kilometres to find fuel station.

most distance, possible, was about 640 km in one day in this spring - travel to neighbour country and back. 13 hours of driving. last about 3 hours i really boring then, yes, but...for one time is ok. if travel is many days, then that tempo is insane, sure.
i think, comfortable travel with looking around and so on is about 150 - 250 km on any 2-wheeler. more, and there starts to compromises and more fatique start to accumulate in long term...

yes, just looking - in last year travel to Finland i do 560 km in 24 hours in first day, as so my this spring travel to finland is my longest one... ;)

but, in long term travels ( 3+ days in saddle for about 200+ km in a day) vibration is a problem for me...

I think your first post, 180 miles a day, is bang on the money, given your comments on the type of journey you want. Maybe chuck in a 150 after two days, so you have a bit of chill time.

And if you decided to skip a stop, 330 is doable using motorways.

Thanks for all the replies folks,
I think we are settled on the 180 (ish) miles each day but we have yet to pick the 90's up - probably mid September and then ride them back to Orkney and use the Aberdeen/Kirkwall ferry to chop a few miles out. Once we have them home we can do all the mods needed for luggage and fuel before the trip next year. From Rotterdam to the Mosel is only around 300 anyway so no big deal. I would really like to show my fellow rider (Doug) some of the lovely little Dutch villages in Friesland over the 'Big Dyke' (stop sniggering at the back!) so that would add on another big chunk.
Looking forward to it like a pair of little schoolboys, our Wives think we need our heads examining!

Hi Orcadian,
I travelled with two mates to southern Germany two years ago from Scotland and reckon 140-160 miles per day is about right. Sure you can go much further, but the whole blooming point of going on a c90 is to smell the air, feel the sun and see the interesting sights along the way. Leave your ideas of big miles a day and go for big smiles a day! We got stopped twice by Germans so excited by seeing us on our 90's that they gave us beer!!!! And it's such fun, we used to go through towns and launch our machines on the pavement and park them like bicycles! I can't do that with my other motorbike. If you can go to Mainz, go there there is a brilliant cafe called something like the red hot chilly which is very welcoming to us. Don't expect any respect from the bike bikes though😥. Have a great time.
