Triumph Tiger? anyone got any opinions/experience of them?
I really enjoyed a trip to Germany/Luxembourg on my Triumph America, but its not really the righht bike (bit cramped) for such long trips. So I was considering geting shot of the America and getting a Triumph Tiger - Ive seen a 2005 one with 28,000 miles on the clock for £2800 wiht all the panniers and back box that'd make touring a pleasure. Anyone got any advise / horror stories on these bikes?

I fixed one.
Heaviest thing this side of the titanic, really nice engine and gearbox, spastic silly plastic quick release fuel couplings that snap and piss fuel everywhere.
Do not want.
Get a Versys for that money, I bought an 07 with 5,000 miles, years MOT, FSH, full luggage etc for £2700 about 8 months ago.

i went touring on an early one, nice bike, not half as heavy as some tourers about, depends what you are used too...
built well enough and great engine, traded it for a bm in the end (shaft drive)
the petrol line splitters can be replaced for metal ones, the plastic ones dont usually piss petrol,
and only snap under duress, but are awkward sometimes, must av been faulty

Just had a quick look round ebay and autotrader, nice looking bike the Versys, I had'nt considered one TBH, looks more sporty/modern than the Tiger for sure. Looks like you got a stonking deal @ £2700 there mate.garth wrote:I fixed one.

Diesel has one with a diesel engine ...or you could put a 3 cylinder smart diesel engine in one.

Yup, I sold it a few months after though, fancied an IL4 again.
They're very light, agile, good on fuel, proper tank range and gruntier than you'd think.
And if you're an idiot like me, they wheelie quite well, and if you're slipstreaming a fully blown 200SX you can get an indicated 132mph... Just! Although realistic top end is 120.
I think I was getting 65+ mpg out of mine.

I was in discussions with a guy on Ebay to part-ex my Bonny America for one, he wants my bike plus £500 for his (link below) but given its not sold twice at £2800 i think that effectively vaules mine at £2300 which Im sure I could better once ive wiped an oily rag over it and taken some nice pics ( its a 2002 with 14k miles and some recent history) so Im njot sure its such a great deal. Hard to value these tigers, such a range of prices it seems.
