Clutch Question about Yamaha Mate

Post by tom149 » Thu Jun 22, 2023 10:58 am

Hello,
I have a question about a Yamaha Mate.
I own a Mate v50 and a Mate v80. Both operate as they only have a centrifugal clutch when shifting.
So when I push the foot on the shifting lever for shifting up or down, i can easily shift, but before i release my foot from the lever, the clutch is already engaged again.
Problem is, when the clutch operates like this, smooth shifting is not possible with these twostroke-bikes....
Not like my Hondas, here is the clutch only fully engagend when i remove my foot from the lever.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to tell;)
So before I unscrew the engine sidecover i wanted to ask if this is normal?
Because getting spares and gaskets is not very easy in germany....
Does anybody know?
thanks a lot
greetings

The v series is a crash gearbox. I had one. When you press the gear change pedal it does NOT disengage the clutch. The bike only has a centrifugal clutch.

It's a poor deign and ruins an other wise very good bike. Changing gear on the flat is fine...ish. Changing down on hills is a nightmare.

If it had had the same design as the cub it would have been brilliant. But.......

Don't take it apart, you'll be wasting your time.
