Yamaha XT125r

Post by Bailey80808 » Tue Feb 28, 2023 9:29 pm

Well after lots of faffing about contemplating new bikes (& asking questions on here about the new C125) I've gone & bought an old XT125r....... 🙄. Anyone have any experience with one?
I still see a C125 in my future but this came along cheap, owned by an old guy rather than a youth so no Monster energy stickers or attempts to make it go faster..... or crash scars.
It needs some tidying up but it runs well enough & should have pretty good MPG. 2006 & showing just over 3Kmiles which I'm told is true but these XT's are known for their digital speedos failing so not sure if it's been replaced.... There are another two for sale locally without working speedos & no MOTs because of it, I was going to go & look at them when this came up for similar money, I'm expecting this one's speedo to give up at some point but will get a universal digital job rather than the £300 ish that new ones are...

I'm in Southern Spain & these 125s are really sought after so I didn't um & ah much when it came up for sale... as I say I'd still like a C125, there isn't a history of C90s here so they don't exist second hand, a few C125s are starting to appear & I think with time I'll probably snag a used one.
I've also been watching for an Innova or a Wave, these do come up for sale but in very limited numbers, lots have done astronomical milage or look like they've been pulled out of a canal, but I'll keep a watch out because I'd quite like one of those........
After a bit of a dirt road climb today I was impressed with the very low first that feels like it'd climb anything, I'll see how it goes on a longer run to work tomorrow & see how the knobbly's feel on the road, It'll need new tyres soon & think it'll probably be better on road biased tyres for what I need.

Needs a bit of tidying up but nothing that a bit of cleaning & paint can't sort out.
