I have a bit of a back problem and I was concerned about crawling in and out of a tiny tent all the time but that bit was fine. Riding the bike was good too but the bike has evolved over many years and miles to suit my needs exactly.

Having both a swing arm rear suspension and a sprung seat keeps the spine well isolated from road shocks and thankfully the padding is thin on the saddle so you don’t get that ‘crushed arse’ syndrome after many hours riding. I did southern Germany to Amsterdam in a day and could still walk fine afterwards. That bit could have been quicker if my petrol mounted riding buddy had not needed to refuel...twice.

The gearbox problem turned out to be a chipped tooth on the gearchange ratchet so a blob of weld and a touch of the grinder has fixed that. The gearbox was second hand 80,000 miles ago and is also leaking grease so does need some attention.

I’ll probably need to adjust the chain by one notch and I have already adjusted the clutch so there’s has been some plate wear (the bike has a very tall first gear so heavy traffic or town work takes its toll).

Didn’t use any oil to speak of.

I’ve just realised today that it’s only 5 weeks until the big dieselbike gathering in northern Germany!
