Just go easy - CVTs are hard to over-rev, change the oil at 100, 300 and 600 and go normally after that :)

20 mile run in ,up to maximum revs but not under full load (not uphill ;) ) back off the throtle often and change the oil . Use the best oil you can get .

There is a thread on how to run in engines on here somewhere .

Gentle, old school running-in. The best way to ensure that the piston rings never get bedded-in and the oil consumption will be high from the start on and keep that way.

re running in, do what the owners manual says, Honda make the engine. The first 300 miles, dont use full throttle. Simple.

You had a bike long enough to run it in

I'm in the '30 miles, then thrash it camp'. Gone are the days of replacing white metal bearings every 10-12000 miles. Gone are the days of surfaces work hardening and 'bedding in'.

And IMO, the rings fare better when they are scrubbed in, not eased in.

Changed the rings in Git and honed the barrel. 30 miles, caned it, the following day, rode to a meet in Yorkshire and back, over 530 miles, pinned all the way. Done the 1000 miles in 24 hours on her shortly after. The bike has never run better.

Motoman backs his theory with arguments.

The worst oil burner I've ever had was my Yamaha SR500 single, which I ran in by the book over several thousand kilometres of gentle back-road riding after a rebore.

My second SR500, bought with 40.000 kms on the clock, used a ½ liter oil per 5000 kms
