I've just acquired a Honda Custom CM125 twin partly stripped. Anyone know if they were any good? It'll need a lot of work to get it going again. If it's better off to break it up I'll make an advert for the bits, although I'm tempted to hardtail it and bobber it

Getting quite desirable and, if the motor is anything like the CB125T Superdream, quite powerful for a 125. Keep hold of it and see if you can get it back to original spec

I had a CM200 for many years, same motor as a CD200 with it's single carb and 4 speeds - a very softly tuned motor.

I ran one for 2 years and 48,000 miles.

Only change I had to make was swap the bars over as the originals gave me back-ache.

Rear mudguards are weak and support the rear light cluster and number plate and once they weaken with rust they crack.

Electric starter worked well despite being only 6v.

Always liked the small Honda twins. Camped behind a pub earlier this year where the publican was rebuilding a CD200. He reckoned he had a shed full of 125 twin engines and bike parts. It was very old world, when the pub got busy he came in grumbling about being disturbed from his bike building.

Well I think actually I'm going to break this one. The forks are rusty and will be hard to find and both mudguards have rusted through. Hopefully, I'll keep one or two others on the road.

The CM engine is different to the Cb125T engine. The CM will make about 11bhp. The CB125T about 17BHP. Similar looking but different.

The CB125T Superdream was restriocted to just 12bhp, as learner riders were restricted to 12 bhp UNLESS the bike was registered before 31st December 1981, which is why my local Honda dealer was selling off the CB125T2's he had in stock for £547.00 on the road from Sept 1981, £300 off the list price! The CM125 was also restricted, but had a single carb instead of the Superdream's twin carbs, and both bikes had no kickstart option, that's when the rot set in I reckon, a bike aint a bike without a kickstart!
