Finished my cub project
125 Lifan: Kepspeed exhaust:
Open mouth filter: 120 rear; standard front: 16^39 sprockets.

Very nippy in all gears, but top speed of 44mph, less than the 90!

Any tips? Engine just run in...

Cheers

That might be the problem , if you go in the search bar and look up what others have done , you will find that most find the standard carb a bit restrictive on the 125 engine , I’ve got a molkt on my Lifan 125 and it goes like stink .

Cheers Cuffy.

I've got some 22, 26 and 28 carbs.

What mm' is yours and what sort of top speed are you getting? I'd like 50 +, just for dual carriage way riding,

You say "very nippy in all gears",so your problem could be gearing.I ran an 18 tooth front sprocket on my 110 Lifan which gave it a top speed of 50 to 60 mph depending on wind, with 47 mph in 3rd.18 was the largest that would fit on the 110.Pit Bike Spares sell them, but check they will fit the 125 shaft.

Does a tight chain hinder? I admittedly cut mine too short, which is a bit too tight, but with enough play to work.
Tempted to add another link with a clip master link, but concerned about the safety of running 2 master links. Hoping that with the 90's relatively low speeds, it won't matter.

Any thoughts???

Yes it does matter. Alter it and see what happens

Slackened the chain (new) tried various front sprockets 15 16 17 and it still tops out at 45.
Which is a bit frustrating because I bought the Lifan for 4th gear and to get up to 50+ to stop getting bullied by f@ckin considerate car drivers on the occasional but unavoidable by pass travel.
Only thing I can think is the carb , it's still the standard 19.
Bigger can you add a 4th gear to a c90 engine?
