Royal Enfield rebuild

Post by stevew » Sat Mar 11, 2017 10:23 pm

Well this one packed up way back in 2016 on a ride out. Developed misfiring and erratic running and i had to limp home at 40 mph on the M25. Not a happy experience
Thought maybe the head gasket had gone so took the head off and couldn't find anything wrong.
Mat decided to put it all back together today and when he had finished it was just the same. Here is a video of it (barely) running.

It's a modern one with the unit construction engine and FI. No FI warning light coming on either :?
Any thoughts ??

I assume you have changed the suppressor cap and plug, is the advance and retard by the ECU, if its got timing marks you could strobe it, but my best bet it is the injector, remove it and see what the squirt is like.
I'm always told its easy on injector bikes.
if you looking into mechanical failure, has a valve picked up in the guide or spring broken, meaning it's not releasing back properly. Did you remove the exhaust valve, its usually that one as it gets hotter.

Matt says he can see an injector spray; that would indicate it's not he fuel side, if it was weak and dribbly then I'd suspect the pump.

New plug, new cap, check the HT lead back to the coil and then all the LT side back to the pickup.

Or take to to Steve Parkers in Southend as they have all the Enfield experience you can shake a stick at (closed on Mondays).

sorry Dave ,it basically says that the Hitchcock £500 fuel pump can be substituted with a £60 pump from fuelperformance.co.uk and using an external in line filter, as the standard filter perished and bolloxed up the pump in the first place.
