Another cub. Its a bit of a tiger!!

Post by Andrewwoey » Tue Dec 27, 2016 4:39 pm

Brought another cub but its not a Honda. Its a 1959 Triumph tiger cub.
Brought as a none runner with blocked carb! and been standing for many years. A sonic clean of the carb, a correct grade and lengh spark plug fitted and tappets checked. There was some ignition of fuel and some great back fires. It was found that the ignition timing was a mile out. It was firing well after top dead centre instead of btdc. So after some ajustments it fired up but with little response from any throttle movement. So it looks like its only a knackered carb and a recommission and another cub will be on the road.
Wish every thing went so easy with my CM91

Amal carbs are easy and you can buy all the spare parts individually.

Yes Dave, full service kits and individual part are available from Amal. It was very corroded and not sure if internal passages are any good. Also need a 'not available' float bowl for the Amal 32, due to knackered corroded threads on main jet cover bolt.

It will work on carburettors but let is set for a few days rather than 24 hours and keep it warm in the airing cupboard whilst it cures.

Will continue with the Amal after i'm sure the rest of the motor is running ok with a working modern carb, for testing.
