Re: what are you getting 125s
They claimed 85 from the '79 CB125T I had a couple of years ago but I only saw an indicated 80 once after a downhill run. My innova 125 will sit at 65 true (indicated 70) once warm and at that speed does 120 mpg. At pottering speeds it does 140 and trying hard to take it easy, 170 mpg...

i really want a cb125t 17hp my ajs has the 11hp water cooled version when the carbs want it will out run most 125s, probs the gears ratios were too low?guildbass wrote:They claimed 85 from the '79 CB125T I had a couple of years ago but I only saw an indicated 80 once after a downhill run

Most of those twins were 360 degree (and i€ think the AJS is too) so there's no way they'd rev high enough to make the power. The CB125T engine had a 180 degree crank which would rev past 12,000.mr jack wrote:i really want a cb125t 17hp my ajs has the 11hp water cooled version when the carbs want it will out run most 125s, probs the gears ratios were too low?guildbass wrote:They claimed 85 from the '79 CB125T I had a couple of years ago but I only saw an indicated 80 once after a downhill run
In reality, a healthy one probably didn't make more that 14 bhp...I've seen dyno's of lightly tuned ones making 14 bhp. It's pretty peppy for a 125 but the power is sort of concealed...it's all stacked up top and you really have to dance on the gearbox to get it to go. The CG I had felt brisker up to about 50 or so.
Reading up on your a bit, it seems AJS offered the NAC with what was effectively the 250cc engine from the Nighthawk...

Re: what are you getting 125s
the ajs has a 180 crank it revs well but the carb do restrict it abit and your right about the gears you can either cruise in 5th or to keep it alive hold it mid range then kick down and will goguildbass wrote:Most of those twins were 360 degree (and i€ think the AJS is too) so there's no way they'd rev high enough to make the power. if i had the money i would redo the cam shaft and carbs to 26/28mm slider carbs and a 16/17 tooth front sprocket and air filters
Re: what are you getting 125s
The only way to get a cam would be to buy a complete bike...They really are as rare as hen's teeth. i don't think the carbs need to be slide types though...The CV's on the later twins flow perfectly well and are more efficient. The only real advantage of slide carbs is on a race bike with very light flywheels where the CV's are not as instant in their response. On my W650 forum we had guys putting keihin flat slide race carbs on their bikes to try to get more power and they made absolutely no difference to the top end BHP. I had no end of trouble with the stock carbs on the 125T...they were simply old and needed a lot of fettling to get them even half good....mr jack wrote:

Re: what are you getting 125s
you can get superdream cam shafts then send them off to be redone and the cv carbs on my bike the are poor they are only good if you keep revs on other wise they are slow and can be temperamental when up the revs and can be poor on hills unless you keep the revs up in 3rd/4th with a run upguildbass wrote:The only way to get a cam would be to buy a complete bike...They really are as rare as hen's teeth. i don't think the carbs need to be slide types though...The CV's on the later twins flow perfectly well and are more efficient. i have heard people redo the carbs, cam, exhausts, gasport ect and had large improvment on the performance and top speed
