C50, moped?

Post by DemsDFTBA » Sun Oct 13, 2013 9:13 pm

Hello chaps. In a few months I turn sixteen (The sad thing is I could tell you exactly how many days it actually is  ) and I'm looking into getting me some wheels. I was wondering, is the C50 legal for a 16 year old with a CBT to ride? There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the net, and I can't seem to find a conclusive answer.

Some people say no way, some are saying that post 2011 it does count because the engine Is 4kw?

And if the C50 isn't can anyone recommend anything that is?

Ta very much. :)

I'm afraid not.

The only moped legal version was the moped badged automatic 50 LAC model however your licence will not permit you to ride this either.

Your pretty much stuck with a modern moped, but don't despair; we would welcome you to all the events and a year will soon pass.

Hmm, that's a shame. Though we thought as much. Dad's horrified about the changes in attitude towards young riders since 'his day' (Whenever that was! ;) ) in that case what are people's opinions on the modern Honda mopeds, the speed fighter perhaps?

Ta very much.

Just to mention above I meant Honda mopeds or something not dissimilar like the speedfighter.

You will have to find one that fits the rules brought in this year so most old peds are no good ,when you do the cbt ask what you can ride but they are restricted to 28mph. :(

Thanks for the info chaps. I was A' thinkin' is the SGX50 classed as a moped? I'd drastically prefer that to something with such titchy wheels...

i believe that most mopeds from around 2008 onwards are made with a maximum walking pace of 28mph

Aye, I believe that fastest I could go would be 29mph. :|

The new law is one of those EEC directives so it's actually 45 Kph (down from 50 Kph. .... And 45 Kph is 27.96 Mph....

In practice though, unless the bikes have some kind of GPS speed limiting (which obviously they don't) it's pretty ball park. My Honda 50 LAC was restricted and plated to 30 mph yet would hold 40 mph on the flat quite easily...And yes, the restrictive 'washer' was still in place!
