i recently bought honda innova 125 1997. probably the last carb model. low mileage, only 14500. full service history up to a year ago by dealer.
not been used by the previous owner in the last year due to ill health. only two problems with it are high idle speed which makes it jump forward when selecting first gear and the front brake is binding. wheel will turn but not freely.
any suggestions how i can fix these problems before i take it for mot?
regards
chris

The idle speed should be simple enough - there is an adjuster screw on the side of the carb - make sure you get the right one; it has a spring underneath and sits at right angles to the carb body.
Brake binding will be more tricky as it's a hydraulic disk, unbolt the calliper, remove the pads and see how corroded the piston is, if it's bad then it will need replacing, if it's just dirty then a good clean and working it back and forth should solve the problem - DON'T pop the piston out of the calliper (unless you intend replacing the seals.

Re: innova idle speed high
thanks for the reply dave, sorry it took so long to reply, i only took it for mot last week and passed with no problems.
the idle problem was a bit more complicated than just adjusting the idle screw. it turns out that because the bike was stood for 18 months before i bought it, the carb was green inside and needed proper cleaning which i had done by my local shop. the brake binding was sorted by giving it a good ride out.

Re: innova idle speed high
Interested in your claim that it may be one of the last carb models. I bought mine new in '98 and know that it had been in the showroom for a loong time.
Would you mind posting your frame number either here on a PM and I can compare? Would be interesting to know.
Thanks.

I didn't think Innovas were imported until 2003

Re: innova idle speed high
Hi all,
Just to hijack an older thread, has anyone experienced a high idle when coming to a stop in gear? Even when dropping into neutral, the engine runs away a little.
The bike starts perfectly from cold with the choke and settles to a sensible idle, this is just something that occurs once ridden flat out for a while.
This was happening in stock trim, but it's a bit more noticeable with the aftermarket exhaust. I've recently increased main jet size but didn't need to alter the idle or any other settings. Throttle adjustment / play and routing also appears to be fine.
Wondering if this is a trait of the bike?
Thanks,
Keith
