New and hoping for some help

Post by RavenousAngel » Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:42 pm

Recently I came into possession of 3 mopeds from the 60's and up. One is a Honda that my son would like to rebuild as it is all there. It was one of my grandfathers favourites. So I signed up with all I know about the moped which is that it is a Honda C50e (on engine?) and that hopefully I will find someone that is able to point me in the right direction so that I can restore this beauty back to its original condition. It looks a little rough right now, however, it has been inside, in a basement for 10 years. My grandfather actually had it running 10 years ago and now I think the engine has seized.

So I am here for the history, here to learn from someone that may know what I am working with and hopefully rebuilding and having my 16 year old son share the journey of rebuilding this classic to its original beauty.

Hi and welcome you have come to the right place, have you got any photos of the bike? there are guides on how to post them so it should not be a problem .A photo should help sort out which model it is and help find parts. Where abouts are you there may be a member near by to be able to offer help, you can add your location in your personal details area...as you can see I live furthest south...

It's a plain C50 if it's from the 1960s. they were made 1967-1977 (ignition key in left sidepanel).
All Hondas before about 1980 had an engine number starting with the model followed by an 'E'. (for engine?)
Frame number is just behind left side top engine (& legshield chrome strap) mounting,
This will start C50, followed by a letter and the serial number.
There's a list of VIN year codes in the 'guides' section here, but unfortunately C90Club's full-size viewer is broken at the mo, so it won't go big enough to read!!
If you post the first 5 or 6 digits of the frame number, I'll check with my saved copy for the year. ;)

Next model was C50Z2 (1977-79)
then C50ZZ (1979-83)
These also have engine numbers beginning C50E. Ignition key is in legshields near your left knee.

Lots of detailed info on early UK spec Cubs here.. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1098

(The actual C50E was a 1980s 12 volt model with square lamps).

Just discovered, if you Ctrl + scroll it enlarges enough to see. :)

Welcome to the Club RA :D

That's a great project you've got there, wonderful :) Photo's please.

There's a real mixture of people here and usually someone will come forward who can help with near anything.
