Another C50 newbie
Hello all,
I'm Richard from Selby, I'm currently restoring a '67 model C50 to take part in a charity ride in April. Unfortunately the rear mudguard is severely rotten so I've got the MIG and the grinder out at the moment.
I'm used to motorcycle touring on this, but I expect the C50 ride is going to be somewhat different!
I've just picked up another rotten C50 on eBay, this one is also red, but a '76 model. Pictures to follow!

Hi Richard and welcome to the Club
Yes the back end does tend to be a weakness but you'll enjoy the project all the same, they're good fun to work on Looking forward to your photo's and if you like you can plot the progress of your project by starting a thread in 'Project Threads'

Aye. G-suffix was Aug 1st 1968 to July 31st 1969, though it may have hung around unregistered for a couple of years.
It's not on the DVLA computer.. Have you got an old tax disc or the old brown log book? If not it'll need re-registering on an age-related number.
You'd need a dating certificate from Honda or one of the approved clubs.
Full list of frame numbers here so you can check its age.

Re: Another C50 newbie
Hi all,
Thanks for the replies, the bike is a C50-E, so it was built in '67, but must have hung around for a while before being UK registered. I'm rather glad that it is a '67, my pride and joy VW Beetle is a '67 model year, which is a rather special year for Beetles.
Luckily I have the bike's last tax disk, from 1976! So I'm hopeful of keeping the original reg.
I didn't get chance to finish the welding work today, I've also have a house project on the go
I have made arrangements to pick up a '76 C50 on Tuesday evening, another rotten one, but I'm hopeful of another resto rather than using it for parts.
I expect the welder will be out again, with a bit of creative plating!

I work in central Bradford on a regular basis (and Wakefield, Leeds, Halifax, Dewsbury and Huddersfield) unlikely I'll commute on a C50 though!

Re: Another C50 newbie
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone
I'm collecting the '76 bike tomorrow evening, so I'll have some more photos up in a couple of days.
Fingers crossed I'll have the '67 back on it's wheels within a couple of weeks, I'll definately be up for a club run out.

I'm currently filling out a V765 form, and I have an old tax disc. Do you know if I still need to contact an approved club? If so, which one?Boo wrote:Aye. G-suffix was Aug 1st 1968 to July 31st 1969, though it may have hung around unregistered for a couple of years.
