:D :D :D Just for fun:-

DVLA leaflet inf104 states :-

Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 may display traditional ’black and white’ number plates (for example, white, silver or grey characters on a black plate).

Since April 2016 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1976 can display the older style plates. You must have applied to DVLA, and be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class.

It's a page or two further on in the doc.

Thing is...

If this leaflet has not been updated for a couple of years (it refers to 2016 dunnit), can it be inferred that any vehicle over 40 years and registered as an historic vehicle can wear black and white plates?

Or am I thinking dangerously again? :D

It's not exactly clear!   I hope so because I still "theoretically" own a 1978 motorcycle with a plate that would look great in black and white.

I new about the 1st January 1973 thing because My Grandad bought a Ford Capri in December 1972 and was pissed off because it wasn't delivered and registered until January 1973 and had to have, " bl00dy awful 'modern' numberplates!" 8-)

My uncle was the opposite, He bought a brand new mini van in Oct 72 and was most put out because he had to pay for his own "new" plates!!
