New in Norwich - Help!

Hi there,

Very new to bikes in general, just purchased a c90 to have a go at my first restoration project. Looks to be in fairly good nick without rot, and doesn't look like it will need much in the way of rust treatment.

Due to my complete lack of knowledge and experience, i'm feeling a bit daunted by the strip-down procedure of engine components, electricals and wheels etc., to get the frame ready for sandblasting, painting, and eventual reassembly. Are there any idiots guides to stripping the bikes down completely?

Thanks,
Marcus

Welcome Marcus,
You wont find a better bike to learn on than a cub, they are as simple as they come. Take your time, note how things come apart, label stuff, take photos, etc. There is a wealth of info on the forum so have a good search and you will more than likely find the answers to any questions you may have. If you search for CMSNL on the web they have all the parts fiche for the bikes so you can see how things go together aswell.
good luck and keep us posted :)
Mark

YUP! Just have a go! There's not much you can do wrong, so long as you have some mechanical sympathy and a little basic knowledge.

There are plenty of us not far away. :)

Welcome Marcus (from Essex innit).

Very astute! However, I think you will find Norfolk will be empty this weekend. There are usually a few events every year, one this weekend looks as though it will be well attended.

Something to motivate you to get the bike sorted! :D

I agree with Chimp in that CSMNL will provide you with Schematic diagrams of all the parts but my biggest advice is to take photos as you go along.
All the wiring is colour coded so that won't be a problem when you get behind the headlight and joining to the engine etc.
It will also help greatly if you can label old take away containers to place specific small items in.
I've also wrapped things in masking tape and labelled them before now.
Some things can remain in situ. For example when you take the seat off, leave the bolts in the seat but secure them with masking tape to stop them falling out.
Just get a bit organised and it will be a piece of cake.
Any problems, just ask.
