A smile on my face
Hello from Greece
Firstpost here
My name is Giorgos
Back in 1997 i bought my first bike a used in excellent condition Honda C50e 12v 1986 model.
It is the same that were could be founfound in UK as it was imported from the official authorised dealer here.
With mpa speedometer etc.
I have so many good nemories with that moped, through my school years, to the army, etc
About 10 years ago i gave it to one of my cousin.
Cause he did not had a vehicle.and told him to take care of it for me.
A couple of bikes came along since then but the feeling/ connection i had with that C50 was not the same.
Times changed, my cousin had a family with two kids and he did not used it.
And i saw it one day in his garage sitting in a corner and i realise that it was time to come back home with me
So i m once again with the bike i always loved, and i will try to restore slowly.
Needs a lot of parts, but the basic is that from a first view there are not many rust issues.
I m so excited and happy with a smile on my face everytime i look at it!
Here it is on a trip back in 2010 .
I had a scooter and my cousin the c50.
On a trip to an island

So i will put some pics in the slow progress of the restoration
Thanks for your time and forgive my poor English

Where are you in Greece, by the way, and do you see many Honda cubs in your area? Do they suffer from the same "rust disease" as ours or is your climate a bit kinder to them?

Re: A smile on my face
Thank you everyone for the warm welcoming
I m in Athens
There are tons of them here!!!
Most of the motorcyclist here started with one of these workhorse.
So many people here are emotional attached with them and dont sell them.
In Athens there is not much of a rust issue cause we have low humidity persentage.
But on the islands or at a country side most of them are in really bad shape.
I have to start stripping down mine and working.
Not much time or cash but this is a project that i m very excited to work with
Have a great weekend!
Best
G

Re: A smile on my face
Thanks Giorgos
I remember being in Athens in the summer of 1971 (or was it '72?) having hitchhiked there in my student days.
It was the time of the Papadopoulis military coup and martial law.
We were having some mezedes and a cheeky ouzo in the plaza outside the old Olympic stadium when a tank rolled up, squashing a table and chairs!
Ah. Those were the days.
We spent six weeks there altogether, sleeping a lot of the time on the beaches and island hopping. Loved Hydra. Back on the mainland we went to Olympia and then up to Delphi before finishing on Corfu, where I crashed a moped, and then flying home.
You have a beautiful country.

Re: A smile on my face
Welcome George! For all of us that were born in Greece, the Cub has a very special place in our heart!
This comes as a bit of a story, but Cubs in Greece are actually called "Ducks"! It all traces back to early 80s when Sarakakis, the official Greek Honda importer (for cars and motorcycles), had the bright idea to sticking a sticker of a yellow happy duck on the mudguard, right on the opposite side of the Honda badge. Apparently the step-through shape of the Cub resembled to a duck, so that sticker made clear of that! After that move the name "Duck" just got stuck with all Cubs and every step-through is still been called like that to this day.
