Honda Super CUB C90 - 1998 DeLuxe
Hello everybody, I am a member for a long time but never had the chance to present myself. I am from Romania and in 2008 I had the chance to buy a Honda Super Cub C90. It was such a luck that I managed to get it. I was seeing World Greatest Ever Motorcycle on the Discovery Channel over and over again and saw that the Cub was on the first place... I was 20 years old back then and I thought that I should buy one. I searched on the internet the official website of Honda (Cubs did not sell in Romania), the site was under construction. There were 5 phone numbers and I didn't know which one to choose so I chose the one that had the same provider as mine. It was the Honda Power Equipment number at the Service Department. I asked the guy where could I buy a Cub and he started laughing like hell. I asked him if I offended him and he replied that they have a Cub in the storage area sitting for 10 years. I was amazed to hear that and the next day I went to see it. It was 2008 and the Cub was from 1998 and it had only 25 km on board. I asked why they didn't sell it and it turned out that they changed places and lost it's papers. The price was then 7000 LEI (around 2000€) and it seemed a lot. I talked to my parents and they finally agreed to buy it thinking that they will have the money when the guys from Honda will have the papers. I wrote them an e-mail saying that I've got good news and I will buy it, they replied right after saying that they also have a good news, they found the papers (I was scared that I will not have the money) and they again said that they have another good news and that is that they reevaluate the price and the new price is 4600 LEI (1266€). They gave me 1l of Honda's Mineral Oil, changed the battery and helped me to transport it home since it was never registered. I was the happiest man/child alive! Some photos from the day of purchase (19th of April 2008):
On the 2nd of May I came in the UK after I was accepted for a job here. My Cub and my Honda Transalp XL700V are back in the home country... I would want to buy a Cub here or bring mine over, I haven't decided yet. Anyways, I miss it already. 4 years of my University were made on the Cub and another 2 years going at work and school in the same time. I wouldn't have managed without it. It is an excellent piece of machinery.

Thank you very much! I'm really proud of it and I tried over the years to take good care of it.Diesel Dave wrote:Wow that has to be the cleanest & newest Cub I've ever seen - welcome to the club.
The dog is quite a challenge... I wouldn't bother. Anyways is my parent's dog.Mattt wrote:What a cool story

Those two pictures were taken on the day that I first went to see the Cub. You can see the 1 inch dust on it and the background with the storage area where they kept it :
And those pictures are showing the place's whereabouts... it was an industrialized area that became abandoned and small firms started renting spaces over there :
And that is me being foolish and not having proper protection... things changed a lot since 2008. Nowadays, I always wear proper equipment.

This is the Cub after I had ran into a put hole which was as big as a house!
I tried to take out the spokes and I managed, thank god I had the front wheel as an example cos mounting them back was hard. I did it 3 times and succeeded.
Then a friend of mine (photo) and me, tried to center the rim and did not manage after 4 hours so we went to a guy form Bucharest who does that and charged us 20 pounds for the job. Did it in 20 minutes + talking time and he talks a lot!
It was back on the roads again pretty fast! And looked even nicer!

Re: Honda Super CUB C90 - 1998 DeLuxe
In the summer of 2013 I was working for my dissertation and being stressed out, I wanted to do something crazy! I wanted to go to the Carpathian Mountains with the Cub. There are roughly 120 km from Bucharest to the mountains. I said that even though I have the Transalp, it would't be that fun as with the Cub. So I started this journey with my girlfriend on the back. At the 70th km we caught such a heavy rain that we were wet to the skin in 10 km. We sheltered in a gas station and we proceeded towards the mountains after the rain passed. We started going uphill and it wouldn't wanna climb with the 3rd. Close to 2000 m altitude, the sky was clear and we really enjoyed the trip! On the plateau it started raining and we had to come back cos at 2000 m the rain was cold and the wind was crazy. And we did that day 290 km with 8,5 pounds of gas! (- the half tank I had at the starters of the trip). Some photos :

Re: Honda Super CUB C90 - 1998 DeLuxe
I've just shipped my Transalp here in the U.K. I've decided to preserve my Cub back in Romania and buy one from here. The registration is complicated and guess it would be easier to have one that is already registered here. I just hope that I will manage to buy one and get to meet you Cub enthusiasts. In Romania, if I would have created a Cub event, I would have been the only one. I just wish to see loads of Cubs in the same place and study them.
PS: I've just moved from Coventry to Royal Leamington Spa. It is closer to work. And guess what? Coming from Coventry to L'ton Spa this weekend, in the front of the Railway Station I've heard something very familiar. Turned my head and voila!
I could never mistake the sound of a Cub engine...
