1989 C90

Post by BrianG » Tue Apr 17, 2018 8:30 pm

Evening all,I recently bought a 1989 C90 in restored condition.Having not had one before I am unfamiliar with any foibles they may have,on starting up (kick start) it starts very well 1st kick but it produces a sharp piston slap type of sound just twice and then settles into normal slow running.
This noise does concern me and hopefully you more knowledgeable owners will know if this is normal or can point me in the right direction as to the cause/rectification as at 77 years young I don't relish the thought of a long walk home especially as I live in the more rural area of Norfolk and really still enjoy riding my bikes as i'm sure you all do.Any help would be much appreciated so in advance my thanks and kind regards.Brian (New Member)you can if you wish respond to my email address if that's permitted.

Edit to add that PMs go to your email address.and link removed ;)

Hi Brian. May well be piston slap. No matter. The Cub is only likely to let you down when you need ear defenders to ride it, or you run it out of oil which is the quickest way to kill a cub.

Invest in RAC/AA Green flag etc, or when you insure get one that inclkudes a breakdown service. ( Most do) And simply... enjoy!Does it sound much different to this?

Many thanks for your reply, although it sounds like piston slap it only occurs on initial startup, 2 slaps and then fine no oil burning i.e. no smoke, the bike and engine have been overhauled before my purchase,I took it for a short ride today (biking weather)at last and it runs fine so hopefully serious problems but I will take your advice re breakdown insurance I do have RAC on my car so will get it added. My kind regards and thanks again.
Brian.
