end of the road nov 2016

Post by shayshondacub90 » Sun Jul 16, 2017 11:02 am

having had a bike since age 19 a c50 i was a bike lover all my life
when thee kids came along a car was needed so c90 i had was sold on
as the years rolled on i envied the bikers i would see wizz past me and i sat in the car
so a decision was made in 2008 to buy a bike and a lovely little c50 was bought and i was back in heaven
then as i pottered around (on my own)
i soon heard there was a underground movement of like minded bikers who met up on sundays around ireland
and they met up on honda 50 70 and 90 size bikes :D
the internet being new in my house in 2008 i did manage to find lots of stuff about them lovely bikers and
soon i was on my way to my first meet up in kildare one christmas
there was about 100 bikes of all discriptions and most dident look road legal i must admit
the atmosphere was great though .
i met up with some people and they seemed to be travelling around ireland on a regular basis going to runs
and this interested me a lot.
i soon started going far and wide and then the ring of kerry was comming up soon and i completed my first ring of kerry in june 2010
i enjoyed it very much and actually done it 3 times on the same bike 2010,2011 2015
last time i went to killarney to do it for the last time i changed my mind and done the cork equavalint the ring of beara
well worth the effort envolved to get there.
from jan 2010 when i took my newly bought 1998 c90 to kery for the first time i was hooked and a least a few runs was done every month
between march and sept every year .
i was still interested in the pigeons at this stage and also had a aviary full off canarys in my garden
and also working full time.
i went to wales for first time on a borrowed c90 in 2012 to camp in rhayader with the brown brothers of wexford and it was a wonderful weekend
even though i ran out of petrol going over the mountains on way back to the ferry in fishguard....
i went back and told all of how great wales was and we all came back over in 2013 and 2014 for amies meet up in barmouth
good memeories..
around 2015 though i was getting bored as was going on too many runs and was not enjoying them as much any more .
i decided 2016 would be my last year and done a few runs and finished off with my drive to killarney for the ring of kerry run
doing ring of cork instead i head home and had done over 500 miles in 3 days on my last big spin on my beloved honda 90
going to a vintage car truck run in november in kildare that was my last run out on my bike and i sold it on soon afterwards
i had done over 15,000 miles on it in 7 years travelled to some lovely places in ireland and wales
met some very interesting people heard some lovely storys and some sad ones too
im sure i will miss the freedom i had owning a bike and camping weekends will not be the same
the time had come to move on though and im sure ill be back
it was lovely to meet all the people i met along the way and i hope this iconic bike keeps going on and on
bye for now and keep on cubbing
regards from ireland
shay

Time to get another bike Shay. I've done those Irish routes in a car pulling a caravan. I bet they are terrific on a bike. And you drive on the correct side of the road, which is a plus. :)

Oh no Shay. Now is the time to teach your little ones the love of the humble Cub. Think of the adventures that they can have on them.
But saying that, I've enjoyed your tales of Irish bimbling and will miss those merry stories and pictures of the Emerald Isle. It's nice to get out even if it's only by reading of someone else's recounts of people and places I'd like see and meet.
Good luck with whatever the future holds for you and your family.
