Still got my cotton Vango Force Ten Mk 5 from 1982. It's still brilliant and has stood up to every type of weather since we bought it. I'm not sure whether they still make them in cotton but it's still the best. It breathes and you don't get any condensation forming inside. It's also much quieter than "nylon" type ones.
It is heavier and will take longer to dry out though.
When I did Offa's Dyke I carried a one man Vaude tent that was extremely quick to put up plus the lightness was essential for my backpack, but if I was staying put for any length of time it would be the four man Vango with the extension.

It was quiet windy and very wet on the Gower bimble on Saturday night.
My £20 Tesco tent held up well and was watertight.
I was lovely and warm in my £6 Asda sleeping bag wearing my onesie.
What I do is put 2 pegs in each loop at 90 degree angles to each other as my tent does not have ropes :?

That's the problem. If they're not pegged down properly, even the best of tents will blow away.

And here's me been stressing and searching every camping shop wherever I have been searching for the illusive alloy flysheet poles without success....
