1986 C90e CDI unit and ignition coil
Does anyone have the above units available which I could buy. My ignition system appears to have broken down and we have narrowed the problem down to these two units.

A REALLY common fault is a bad connection in your ignition switch, Spray some contact cleaner or WD40 into the switch , then switch on & off a few times....
Let us all know if this has helped ?

To test the switch simply unplug it and try to start the engine. (the ignition contacts in the switch earth the cdi to stop and disconnect it to run - they can be buggers for passing a bit of current in the 'on' position and causing no spark)

Guys it is driving me crazy. I looked at the ignition switch before and disconnected that. The bike fired a few times and then cut out. For a while I was getting a nice spark but now nothing again..... I can only think the problem is with the coil or the cdi unit, but both are hard to check. Resistance in primary and secondary circuit of coil looks ok. Some of the resistances on the CDI unit aren't quite right (though that it a common issue apparently...).

Re: 1986 C90e CDI unit and ignition coil
As my old man was the original owner of the bike from new he assures me he hasn't fitted any new parts to the ignition system! I spent time checking with a bulb today and I think the CDI is sending out a pulse to the coil. As the spark plug lead gives a nice 4kohms resistance I think the problem may lie with the coil. I'm still trying to track one down though.....

Have you tried snipping off a tiny amount off the HT lead ????
